Our Year! + predictions

First and foremost, being as this is my first post, I would just like to say that I am clearly the best looking blogger on the reach. With this out of the way, I want to be the first to tell you that not only are the Kansas City Royals (our year) going to make a big push to win the AL Central, but that you shouldn't be surprised to see a deep playoff run from the boys in blue. Alex Gordon and Salvador Perez were all-stars last year and I seriously doubt this year will be any different. Look for Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas to finally play up to their full potential and join them on this list as well. New this year to Kansas City will be a second basemen not named Chris Getz (fuck that guy). Omar Infante looks to come in and lock down easily the weakest spot for Kansas City the past few years, let's just hope this nagging elbow problem won't hang around for much longer and he can stay healthy. Now I won't sit here and tell you that James Shields will single handedly carry this pitching staff to the promise land, but then again, I'm not going to say he won't. Big Game James finished last season 13-9 with a 3.15 ERA and quite possibly the least run support out of any big time starter besides maybe Jose Fernandez (go Marlins). Yordano Ventura looks like a lock to finish in the top 3 in rookie of the year voting, which will give aid to Shields. The montra for this staff should be "keep it together until we get to the 7th". I don't want to see a single starter besides Shields go the distance. Get to the 7th and hand the ball off to the most consistent bullpen in the league (minus Kelvin Herrera). I don't see any reason why the Royals can't win 90 games this year, the question is whether 1. Ned Yost is successful in trying to ruin every game that's close and 2. Can the young guys finally start showing all the promise we've been hearing about for so long.

Award Projections
MVP- Mike Trout
AL Cy Young- Justin Masterson (got a good feeling)
NL Cy Young- Matt Cain (posted a 4.00 ERA for the first time since '06, that won't happen again)
Rookie of the Year- Yordano Ventura

World Series
Los Angeles Dodgers VS. Boston Red Sox

World Series champions
Los Angeles Dodgers

Happy Opening Day!!!!!!!!

Merry Openingdaymas

Well folks it's here.  The beginning of another season.  You know what's great about Openingdaymas in baseball? Everyone has hope that their team will overachieve and have an incredible season.  Just kidding.  The Phillies, Astros, and Marlins all have no hope and unlike basketball you can't lose 26 games in a row so you can get a franchise changing draft pick.  Baseball just don't work like that people.  So here's to the Phillies becoming the worst team in baseball in two years and to the 2018 season if you're an Astros/Marlins fan.

There is cause for excitement though, don't let me kill your vibe entirely.  Bryce Harper added about 2,000 pounds of muscle in the offseason so watching him break Barry Bonds record this year should be fun.  Mike Trout is still only like 12 years old so despite the fact that he's been AL MVP runner-up in back to back years we still get to watch him develop.  The Tigers will lose in the playoffs again (shout out to Ben Rome) and the Yankees will probably disappoint.  We get to watch Ian Kinsler get mad when he finds out the Rangers won their Openingdaymas game (they're playing the Phillies) and have his 0-162 dreams get dashed.

Without further ado, I'll give you the final standings for this season.  No need to play any regular season games, just skip to the playoffs because I already know what's going to happen.

What a Game

What a game.  Trading buckets down the stretch, tough plays both ways, the officials didn't end the game (Ari-cough-zona).  Can't remember watching a better game in recent history.  Hard fought for sure, got to feel bad for Michigan who gave it their best shot.  Those 132 offensive rebounds they grabbed on their last possession were man's work.  Then Levert nearly swatted the game winner right out of A(unimportant) Harrison's hands.

More importantly though let's look at what the rest of the field looks like.  According to ESPN only 612 brackets had the correct final four out of 11 million plus.  That's pretty insane when you stop to think about it.  What makes it even more incredible is the fact that if you told anyone that these would be the four teams no one would be that surprised.  They're all just teams that definitely could have made it, but probably wouldn't because they're underachieving freeloaders.  Then all of a sudden Shabbaz Kemba Napier has the tournament of his life and Kentucky looks like a bunch of seasoned vets.  Wisconsin finally has enough offense to look like a real basketball team and I mean no one is surprised that Florida is here.

Speaking of which, Florida looks very impressive.  As admirable as Kentucky, UCONN and Wisconsin's runs have been, it almost has the feel that one team has the dick and the others are just happy to be where they are.  That Florida defense looks like a brick wall.  Just can't see them losing to anyone not here, not there, not anywhere.

Get ready people...Buffalo Wild wings is on its way to St Aug

Today started as such a normal Saturday.  Woke up a little confused, found a little bit of puke on the floor next to my bed, and repulsed people at the farmer's market with my unshowered body and greasy hair.
Then, I proceeded to go onto the jobs section of craigslist.  Not only did I find out the best restaurant in town, I also saw an ad reading "New Buffalo Wild Wings Opening Soon! General Manager (St. Augustine)."
Now is this not the best damn news you've ever heard?  St. Augustine has absolutely stepped up their game for the Queen.  She is in for quite the treat.  She will arrive on her ole clipper ship go straight to Taco Bell breakfast, Chipotle for lunch, and then wolf down a couple wings in front of some football.
She is coming to St. Augustine to get a real feel for America, and NOTHING screams america more than that.
Good Shit St Augustine...Good Shit

P.S. If you're interested in becoming the GM of this fine institution, I would like to advise you to reconsider.  But I'll throw up the link anyway ---->http://staugustine.craigslist.org/fbh/4397191205.html

Is UConn winning tomorrow night the easiest pick in history?

So UConn is playing Michigan State tomorrow night in the world famous Madison Square Garden, which is conveniently located just 2 and a half hours from Storrs, Connecticut.  UConn, a former Big East powerhouse, has treated their fans to countless unforgettable memories at the Garden throughout the past 30-plus years.  Playing in the garden is considered to be the pinnacle of UConn basketball every year.
2014 is the first time UConn has not played their conference tournament at the Garden since the end of the 1982-'83 season.
Ever since they left the Big East to joined the newly created American Athletic Conference, Husky fans have been craving some old time basketball.  Luckily, when the bracket was announced, they found themselves just two wins from being able to play at the Garden once again.
After handling an underrated St. Joe's team and upsetting number 2 seed Villanova, husky fans saw their wish come true.
The desire for Connecticut fans to see their team play at the world's most famous venue have driven ticket prices to an outrageous $609 for nose bleeds.  To put these prices into perspective, nose bleeds to see the 2013 Final Four and championship games started at $264 per seat.
These high prices have resulted in bringing only the richest, most loyal UConn fans to the Big Apple.  These fans work stressful jobs and have big time wallets.  The only prescription for them is heading to the Big Apple to spend some money, do some very forgettable things and cheer on their boys.
Now what does this have to do with UConn being a lock for tomorrow's game?  EVERYTHING.
College basketball has proven time and time again that home court advantage has everything to do with the outcome of games (I'm not going to justify this, just because I don't have to...It's true).  Obviously the Garden isn't the home of husky basketball, but it sure has more historic moment than anywhere they have played.
So these fans all plan on getting absolutely shit faced for their weekend away with their class of '82 buddies.  The place is just going to be electric.  UConn had no business in beating a much better Iowa State team, but these drunk fucks powered them to the W.
The fans know that Michigan State is one of the best teams left, and they know what it is going to take for Shabazz and company to win again.  Beer, yelling, throwing up, and some more beer.  There is just no way the fans are going to let the ugliest center in sports and Tom Fucking Izzo beat them.
I can't wait to watch the game tomorrow night, but I know it's going to be a waste of time.  Now go out and make some bets.

Friday Focus: Is the Philosophy in Detroit Working?

As we have all heard, the Tigers and their two-time defending MVP have just agreed to the largest contract in sports history (soon to be broken in the near future by Mr. Trout).  Now, I'm really not here to discuss whether the deal was a smart, secure move for the Tigers, or whether Detroit is still mesmerized by Miggy Mania. What I am here to talk about is whether Detroit's trend of making blockbuster move after blockbuster move helping them inch closer to a title or just keeping them in the clubhouse watching eventual champions celebrate.
Recently, the Tigers have seen themselves be picked by countless analysts as their preseason world series champions.  Heck, there have even been analysts' picking them to be champions deep into the playoffs and once even in the world series.  Having said this, they still look down at the back of their hands day after day to find their fingers lacking jewelry.
I understand that the Tigers must be doing something right.  I mean they have had the AL's past THREE MVPS, two of the past three Cy Young winners, and a front runner for this year's Rookie of the Year race, all while being all over the front page of everybody's newspapers.
The Tigers started their reign of big time moves in December of '07, when they sent their top two prospects (Cameron Maybin and Andrew Miller), along with two other high prospects, to Miami for "D-Train" Willis, and of course, Miguel Cabrera.  The '08 season following the blockbuster trade saw the Tigers fall to a 74 win season, with a 130-plus million dollar payroll.
The following year saw a similar result in the Tiger's pursuit of a title, where they once again failed to reach the playoffs.
Poised to make another splash in the off-season, the Tigers traded their star Curtis Granderson, along with big name pitcher Edwin Jackson in a three-team deal that landed Max Scherzer and Austin Jackson in motor city.
But once again, the Tigers found themselves on the outside looking in during the 2010 playoffs.
After another disappointing year, the Tigers decided to steal one of the biggest names on the free-agent market at the time, Victor Martinez from the Sox for a measly 4-year, $50 mill deal.  Playing well throughout the year, the Tigers started searching for a mid-season acquisition that could really put them in the world series conversation.  They ended up three more of their top prospects for Seattle pitcher, Doug Fister.
They team got hot and went for a run.  They won the division, they had the best pitcher on the planet, and they were playing an unexperienced Rangers team in the ALCS.  Somehow...they lost the series.
After almost tasting the sweet champagne of an ALCS victory, the Tigers wanted more, and they figured more off season moves were the way to make their wish come true.  That winter, they signed big Prince Fielder to [what was then] the biggest deal in club history, landing the biggest name on the market in Detroit.  The season was going well for them, but they needed another piece to really make another run at a title.  Just before the deadline the Tigers traded their top pitching prospect, Jacob Turner, to Miami for Omar Infante and one of the bigger names on the block, Anibal Sanchez.  With four big moves in two years, a salary over $130 million and the eventual triple crown winner, the Tigers finally broke through an made it to the World Series. But, as you can probably guess, the trend of not winning the series continued as they were annihilated by the Cards 4-0.
That off-season, the Tigers decided it was time to spend again.  They signed Torii Hunter to a two year deal worth $13 million a year, resigned Anibal Sanchez for an absurd 5 year/$50 million and extended Verlander for five more years with $180 million!  With expectations higher than ever, the Tigers entered the season at the top of almost everybody's world series predictions.  They played well, resulting in a division title, another MVP for Miggy and a ticket to the ALCS to face the improbable Red Sox.  Even with the return of recently suspended Johnny Peralta, the Tigers came just short of winning the series and advancing for another shot at a title. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rckLF6V2-a0).
This brief history finally brings us to the present.  They decide to part ways with mega-star Prince Fielder and send him to Texas, resulting in all-star 2B Ian Kinsler coming to Detroit.  They offer Max Scherzer an extension that would have made him one of the richest pitchers in baseball history, only to be turned down.  Next, they decide to make Miguel Cabrera the owner of the richest contract in sports history.
With all these big moves aside, let's look at the Detroit Tigers.  They have a payroll hovering around $160 million, with 7 guys making over $10 million (2 over $20) and two guys lined up to make a combine $60 million from years 2016-2019 (Verlander and Miggy).  Jose Igleasias and rookie sensation, Nick Castellanos are are their two young saviors, but Igleasias will never be a hitter and nobody can be quite sure what Castellanos will bring the club for the next few years.  The Tigers have one of the best rotations in the league, when healthy, but desperately lacks depth and it's hard to see any true big leaguers coming up their system.  Scherzer looks poised to leave Detroit, Miggy is bound to follow the other monster deals that preceded him and everyone is wondering how long Verlander's heater will last.  The Tigers have gotten themselves into sticky waters.  If they do not end up winning one of these upcoming world series, they are in for a dark future.  The Royals can beat just about anybody, Shapiro always finds a way to make his Indians competitive and the Twins and White Sox look they are really starting to amp up their rebuilding process.
The Tigers are going to be as competitive as anybody this year, and probably even next year, but at some point they're going to have to look at themselves and revaluate what winning a championship entails.  Other than the '09 yankees, world series champions have experienced small, but effective moves to attain their elusive goals.  Detroit needs to stick to their guns and rebuild their system if they not only want to be crowned as champions, but also make sure Miggy is on a competitive team down the road.

Final thoughts-  As a sox fan, I like the signing of Cabrera, mostly because it means there are ten more years of not seeing him in the Bronx.  But as a Tigers fan, I'm biting my nails hoping they beat out some good 2014 teams for that title, or else I am in for a long 9 years of watching Miggy, Verlander, Castellanos and company come up just short.

Jaccpot Flies the Nest

You gotta be shittin me.  I mean I know that the last thing this burgeoning young Eagles dynasty needs is an overpaid douche running around, but I mean the guy isn't Aaron Hernandez.  Shit, he's not even Terrell Owens.  Seems like a waste of talent, definitely somebody the Chipster fell in love with last year.  It'll be sad watching him run past Eagles defenders next year like they're dummies.  Now I'm gonna post a bunch of D-Jack videos while I go cry into a bowl of cereal.
